Sketching Course by Samalia Swan

Draw the world around you. Not for a gallery — for yourself.

This course is not about learning how to draw right. It’s about learning how to see, how to slow down, and how to let your hand follow what you feel.

Sketching Souls:
Learn to Sketch
Anywhere and Anytime
What this course really is
Sketching Souls is not an academic art school. I won't test you, or ask you to chase perfection. Instead, I share how I draw in real life when I travel, meet strangers, when I sit quietly with my sketchbook in a café, on a street, or at a table with someone’s grandmother.

You will watch, draw with me, pause with me, and slowly discover your own way of seeing. This course is not about results. It is about relationship with your hand, your eyes, and the world around you.

How the course feels
"It felt calm and slow. I never felt rushed or compared to anyone. Drawing felt like sitting next to someone, not being taught. It was just a safe place to be human." - Lea

Questions & Answers
  • Question:
Do I need to be good at drawing to take this course?
    Answer:
No, not at all. The course is beginner-friendly, and I will guide you step by step. However, it’s also great for advanced artists, as I offer lessons tailored to their level as well.
  • Question:
What if my drawings don’t look like yours?
    Answer:
This course is about helping you hear your own hand, your own rhythm, your own way of seeing. Your drawings don’t need to look like mine to be beautiful. They need to look like yours.

  • Question:
What will I learn in this course?
    Answer:
    You will learn how to:
    • see more clearly and more gently
    • draw with confidence and flow
    • capture people, movement, and moments
    • trust your lines instead of correcting them
    • develop your own visual language
But more than that, you’ll learn how to slow down and connect with the world, and with yourself.
  • Question:
Will you teach us how to use references, like videos or live models?
    Answer:
Yes, I’ll guide you in using both live observations and reference materials like photos and videos.
  • Question:
    What materials will I need?
    Answer:
Very little. A simple pen and any sketchbook you already have are enough to begin. I’ll share my favorite materials, but nothing is required. This course is about presence and observation, not about tools.
  • Question:
How much time will I need to dedicate to this course?
    Answer:
    There is no fixed schedule.
You can spend: 10 minutes a day or an hour when you feel inspired. The course is designed to be non-linear. You don’t have to complete everything. Follow what feels alive to you.
  • Question:
    What if I never improve?
    Answer:
Improvement doesn’t always look the way we expect.
    Sometimes it looks like:
    • feeling calmer when you draw
    • being less afraid of the blank page
    • noticing beauty where you didn’t before
If you keep showing up, even gently, change happens naturally.
  • Question:
How will the course be delivered?
    Answer:
    The course is fully online.
You’ll receive lifetime access to all video lessons and materials, so you can return to them anytime and move at your own pace.
  • Question:
What if I have questions or need help during the course?
    Answer:
    You won’t be alone.
You’ll have access to a space where you can ask questions, share your work, and receive guidance and support throughout your journey.
  • Question:
Do I need to know how to draw already?
    Answer:
    No.
This course is open to beginners and experienced artists alike.
All you need is curiosity and a willingness to observe.
  • Question:
Is this course very technical or academic?
    Answer:
No. There is gentle structure, but no pressure. This is not an art school, it’s a practice of seeing and feeling. Optional technical lessons are available if you want them, but they are never required.
  • Question:
Can I take this course while traveling or with a busy life?
    Answer:
Yes, the course was created with movement and real life in mind.
Many lessons are perfect for: cafes, trains, quiet mornings, short moments between responsibilities
  • Question:
Is this course about drawing, or about something deeper?
    Answer:
Both. Drawing is the language, but the course is really about attention, presence, and connection.
  • Question:
Will this help me find my own style?
    Answer:
Yes, not by forcing it, but by allowing it to emerge. Style is not something you invent. It’s something you remember.
  • Question:
What if I’m very sensitive or self-critical?
    Answer:
Then you are very welcome here. This course was created as a safe, gentle space for exactly that kind of heart.
Why I draw this way
  • Hi, I’m Samalia Swan
I draw people because I love people. I draw strangers because every human carries a story worth seeing. For years I have been traveling, sketching faces, moments, quiet lives, not to document them, but to meet them.
  • Drawing became my way of slowing down, of paying attention, of loving the world a little more. Sketching Souls is an extension of that way of living. I don’t stand in front of you as a teacher. I walk next to you.
Check out my work :)
