For a full year now, we’ve been supporting the residents of several villages in Cambodia. Every month we deliver food, provide pensions, and cover medical expenses. Recently, we even built a house for one of our beneficiaries.
At first, we only accepted lonely elderly people into the program, but over time we expanded to help three groups: those who are completely alone; those who have relatives, but they have left for work and cannot help; and those whose relatives live nearby but are struggling to make ends meet themselves.
The list of people we care for has changed several times during the year. The first major change came during the Thai-Cambodian border conflict, when many children returned home and some elderly were able to be cared for by their families.
This allowed us to welcome new beneficiaries — including several recommended by local shopkeepers. Later, we expanded the program to neighboring villages, adding even more elderly people in need. Throughout the year, the number of beneficiaries fluctuated but stayed around 30 people.
We’ve already organized two beautiful gatherings for them: a special dinner at the launch of the program and an Afternoon Tea in the middle of the year. The next one is planned for September together with the participants of our Charity Tour (all spots sold out!). Another tour will follow in February — text me if you want to join.
We initially planned this program for one year, but we’ve decided to extend it for several more years. These elderly people still need us.
Program in numbers:
• Over 40 elderly people made happier
• More than 350 food baskets delivered
• 7 people receiving monthly pensions
• 3 people receiving medical support
• 2 warm community dinners
